Dental Exams Las Vegas

Dental exams are the most crucial part in keeping your smile healthy. Consulting a dentist twice a year allows the dentist to maintain a track record of your teeth and spot cavities or any gum disease in the initial stages so that they don't progress towards a severe infection.

What Should You Expect During Your First Dental Exams?

New patients should arrive 15 minutes early for their first dental exam so that they can complete the required documentation where we will require you to present your dental insurance details. Medical history, any medications which you are taking or any other important aspect related to your medical conditions.

After completing the paperwork, We will take you to a dental exam room for some further medical assessment, and details which will include questions based on pain history or any discomfort you may be facing. You can put forward any doubts or questions that you have related to your dental problems or treatment.

Dental X - Rays

X - rays are very important for a dental exam. These images are necessary for the dentist to have a proper view at the internal structures of the teeth and jaw, as well as to notice any potential abnormalities.

Types of dental x-rays :

Bitewing X-rays: The x-rays are taken to reveal how well your teeth line up and spot any abnormalities between them, such as any bone loss or gum diseases. We will place a film between your teeth and ask you to bite down.

Periapical X-rays: These x-rays are taken to reveal the tooth crowns and the root and are used to analyse the entire tooth. They are useful in detecting tumors, cysts, abscesses, or any impacted teeth in this area.

Occlusal X-rays:  These x-rays are taken in order to spot out any jaw fractures, impacted teeth, cysts or abnormal growths in the roof and floor of the mouth.

Panoramic X-rays:  Panoramic x-rays, as the name implies, offer a wide view of the mouth, including the teeth, jaw, sinuses, and jaw joints revealing any cysts or abnormal growths which the previous x-rays might have missed.

The x-rays help to point out abnormalities and suggest a treatment plan. Not every dental exam requires all types of x-rays.

Note: You should let the dentist know if you are expecting and want to postpone the x-rays until after the baby is born as the x-rays are harmful for the baby.

Dental Cleaning

After taking the x-rays. We will perform a quick visual examination to look for any symptoms of tooth decay or gum disease.

Then you will proceed to the cleaning section of the examination. We remove plaque and calculus from your teeth using special devices. They may produce some noise because they are electric. If you are nervous, then you should tell your hygienist. After cleaning the teeth, the hygienist will floss them and may apply a fluoride gel. After that, it'll be time to see the dentist.

Meeting Your Dentist

The dentist would have already gone over your medical history and examined your x-rays. The dentist will tell you about all the problems and spot out any abnormalities you have in your oral cavity. If fillings or other follow-up treatments required, We will explain and inform you about your next appointment.
